New date for Argentina and Spain celebrate Miguel de Unamuno’s literary works

The Embassy of Argentina and the Embassy of Spain present a special evening to celebrate the Spanish writer and philosopher Miguel de Unamuno, a member of the Generation of '98, a literary group of Spanish intellectuals, many of whom were exiles in Buenos Aires. Miguel de Unamuno had great interest in the issues of Hispanic America, and his work influenced the contemporary Latin American literature, especially within the Argentine writers.
Acclaimed Argentine actor Horacio Peña, who plays the lead role of Unamuno in Irma Correa’s play “El viejo, el joven y el mar” (The Old Man, the Youth, and the Sea) at GALA Theatre, will give this presentation of excerpts of Unamuno’s most important poems and texts, along with cast members Delbis Cardona from Venezuela, Víctor de la Fuente and Luz Nicolás, both from Spain. This is the first time that Peña, awarded the María Guerrero, Trinidad Guevara and ACE prizes as Best Actor, will perform in the United States.

CICLO DE TEATRO EN ATRIL EN ESPAÑOL

TEATRO DE LA LUNA se complace en anunciar la prosecución del Ciclo de Teatro Leído, también llamado Teatro en Atril, en español, brindando un recorrido por la dramaturgia contemporánea. En la entrega del mes de febrero 23 y 24, a las 7:00 y 4:00 pm, respectivamente, se pondrá a consideración del público ‘ALLENDE, la muerte de un presidente’, de Rodolfo Quebleen, dramaturgo contemporáneo argentino, la dirección y actuación de Mario Marcel, Director del Teatro de la Luna y la colaboración de Edwin Roa quien se desempeña como narrador.

De la obra:

11 de septiembre, 1973. Salvador Allende, el presidente de Chile, está en el Palacio de la Moneda atendiendo el teléfono, soñando con la revolución, hablando por última vez al pueblo mediante radio Magallanes, maldiciendo la traición que la está sofocando y haciendo frente a una realidad cruda e implacable: el golpe del General Augusto Pinochet.

Teatro de la Luna, fundado en 1991, continua con su entrega teatral y quehacer en pro de la cultura latinoamericana, ha sido reconocido por el cumplimiento de su misión en varias oportunidades. La organización, a través de su director, Mario Marcel, recibió el Elizabeth Campbell Award para el avance de las artes de la American Association of University Women, filial Arlington, VA.; en dos ocasiones el premio STAR de la Comisión de las Artes del Condado de Arlington, por excelencia en la administración y por el servicio a la comunidad, en 2017 recibió el Working 4 the Community Award de NBC4, Washington DC. Su productora Nucky Walder ha sido galardonada como Latina Woman Leadership 2009 y muy recientemente con el Lifetime Achievement Award concedido por la Alcaldesa Muriel Bowser a través de la Oficina de Asuntos Latinos – MOLA.
